Che or sweet soup is one of the famous desserts in the country but in Hue, there are as many as 36 variations of sweet soup; that is including the royal and folk variations. From the usual bean flavors to lotus, corn, taro and even roasted pork. You can also mix the the flavors according to your liking, my personal favorite is the taro and lotus seed and topped with dried young coconut meat.
Locals normally enjoy sweet soup by the streets in the evening while having conversation with friends or colleagues before heading back home. It would be a great opportunity to be part of this culture even for just few minutes while you enjoy the delicious sweet soup.
One glass of sweet soup ranges from 5.000 – 15.000 VND depending on the combination of ingredients you prefer. Che sweet soup could come hot or cold. Mostly, ingredients are actually warm and they just add some shaved ice to get it a cooler. Coconut milk definitely goes well with most of the combinations. Do not hesitate to ask for more if you love it.
